the sky simply fell, mother
i looked at her,
the old her i knew,
through the door,
fingers knitted together to weave dawn,
i suppose that was her only destiny.
was it not?
or perhaps she just—
look at me!
messy and bloody,
hair strewn across my face like a madman.
look. at. me.
all those fingers you’ve lost for me?
fool!
all your veins that you’ve stitched into my wings?
useless!
why must you carve yourself out?
slowly pluck out organs so that a stupid girl can fly?
i despise you, mother—
no, i hate you.
hate you with every part of me.
i—
“how did that happen, sweetie?”
oh mother please,
the sky simply fell.
the ground simply flew away.
the tower that aimed to reach god’s finger,
the head of a proud and ignorant, throned fool,
just like always,
it fell.
the dove trapped beneath rosy thorns,
the heart of a chasing lover,
just like always,
it flew away.
“i’m fine.”
mother,
it—
“sweetie?”
“i’m just hungry.”
that’s all
